Local Support Groups

When you lose someone you love, you will probably feel a variety of emotions. The ability to make it through the death of a loved one can be challenging, as feelings of shock and disbelief, anger, guilt and depression are not uncommon.

Caring for yourself is not selfish. The period of recovery is different for every person. There is no timetable for grief, so do not compare yourself with others who have lost loved ones. Your life has changed and healing in your own way is important for the health of your mind, body and spirit. It is normal for some days to be better than others.

To help with the grieving process, Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home features a library of books, videos and pamphlets on coping with loss. Our Grief Coordinator, Jeanne Putnam can visit with you to help you choose a resource that is appropriate for your needs. You are welcome to stop by or to call the funeral home to request information on the options and resources available for coping with grief.

 The Grief Recovery Outreach Program

The Grief Recovery Outreach Program is a ten-week program sponsored as a Community Service by Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home.

The purpose of the program is to help you learn the necessary skills to complete your relationships that have ended or changed. The program uses a structured approach with small discussion groups on focused recovery topics. The format used in this program was written in conjunction with the Grief Recovery Institute, a nationally recognized educational Institute.

Our Aftercare Coordinator at the funeral home facilitates the ten week program each Spring and Fall in Breckenridge, which is open to the public. Jeanne Putnam, Facilitator, is a Certified Grief Recovery Specialist.

There is no charge to attend the program, and it requires no advanced registration. For more information, please contact Jeanne at 218.643.5593.

Grief Recovery is the registered trademark of the Grief Recovery Institute and is used with their express permission.

 Widowed Persons Program

Jeanne Putnam, Aftercare Coordinator at the funeral home, co-facilitates the monthly "Coffee, Tea, and Grief" support group with Hospice. This group includes not only widows and widowers who have been served by Hospice, but also any interested individuals who have lost a spouse.
