August Stuehrenbeg

December 8, 1918 — April 24, 2005

August Walter Stuehrenberg, 86, passed away April 24, 2005, at his home in Cooper City, Florida. He was born to August and Marie (Drewlow) Stuehrenberg on December 8, 1918, in rural Nordick Township of Wilkin County, Minnesota. He was the sixth of seven children. He attended a rural one room school through eighth grade near his parent?s farm. He was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church, rural Mitchell Township, Wilkin County, Minnesota. He was drafted into the U. S. Army and served in the South Pacific during World War II.

Following his honorable discharge from the army, he began farming with his two brothers. On June 18, 1949, he married Arda Grahn from Pelican Rapids, Minnesota. They lived on a farm one mile from the home where he grew up.

Four children were raised on the farm, Darrell (Linda), Duane (Bonnie), Sonja (Mark) Wuerffel, and Vance (Mary). August and Arda have 19 grandchildren: Christopher (Sonja), Bryce and Tina Stuehrenberg; Jesse, Jonathan, Courtney and Joshua Stuehrenberg; Karie (Jeremiah) Pitts, Philip, Josiah, Bethany, Katherine, Nathan, Andrew and Isaac Wuerffel; Jennifer & Jason Stuehrenberg, Timothy & Jill Skalicky, and 3 great-granddaughters, Christina and Marina Stuehrenberg and Hadley Stuehrenberg.

In the mid 80?s, August and Arda moved into Breckenridge, Minnesota. Duane continued living and farming the family farm. In 1979, they purchased a winter home in Cooper City, Florida, near their son, Darrell?s, Davie, Florida church, where he is pastor. They wintered there twenty-five years. Sonja serves as a missionary with her husband for Wycliffe Bible Translators in Papua, New Guinea. Vance recently retired from the police force in Mankato, Minnesota.

August was an active church member at Christ Lutheran Church, Mitchell Township, rural Wolverton, MN; Gloria Dei Lutheran, Davie, FL; and Grace Lutheran Breckenridge, MN. He was involved with his son?s farm to the end of his life. He was a caring husband, loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed life and shared his love for Jesus Christ with all he met.

He was preceded in death by his parents, August and Marie, and his brothers and sisters: Augusta Poppel, Ann Dahnke, Sophie Affield, Alvina Tellberg, Henry and Carl Stuehrenberg.

Visitation will take place at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home in Breckenridge on Friday, April 29, from 5:00 PM ? 8:00 PM.with a prayer service at 7:30 PM. His funeral is at 11:00 A.M. , Saturday, April 30, at Grace Lutheran Church, Breckenridge. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name for Wycliffe Bible Translators.
