Bernard "Bernie" Braun, 76, of Perham, MN, formerly of Breckenridge, MN, died November 16, 2005 at St. Francis Healthcare Campus in Breckenridge.
He was born on April 25, 1929 to Leo C. and Alice (Burington) Braun in Breckenridge, MN. He grew up in Breckenridge Township and attended school at District 38. He graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1948. After graduation he went to Oregon and worked in a lumber mill until he returned to Breckenridge in 1949 and farmed with his father.
He was united in marriage to Rita Von Rueden on December 27, 1950 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Breckenridge and made their home in Breckenridge. Rita preceded him in death on November 20, 1990. In October of 1950 he began working for Great Northern Railroad. Then in April of 1953 Bernie began working for the Breckenridge Police Department as a patrolman. In 1959 he was promoted to Sergeant and held that position until 1984 when he retired from the department. Bernie worked part-time at Soupies and Lloyd's Champlin in Breckenridge for many years. In 1974 he began working part-time for Wilkin Transportation as a school bus driver and stayed on as a driver for the Breckenridge School District until he retired in 1997. On June 9, 1992 Bernie married Theresa Eiter and they made their home in Breckenridge until October 25, 1997 when they moved to Perham, MN. In August 2005 Bernie became a resident of the St. Francis Healthcare Campus in Breckenridge.
He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, Minnesota Peace Officers Association, and the Red River Valley Police Officers Association. Bernie enjoyed traveling and visiting with friends. He especially enjoyed time spent with his family.
Bernie is survived by: his wife, Theresa, Perham, MN; his daughters: Kathryn (Les) Wolf, Fergus Falls, MN, Phyllis (Daniel) Lien, Lake Park, MN; his sons: Jerome (Mary) Braun, Detroit Lakes, MN, Michael (Linda) Braun, Breckenridge, MN, Timothy (Kayla) Braun, Wahpeton, ND, Daniel (Sahlenia) Braun, West Fargo, ND; his daughter-in-law: Lisa Braun, Park River, ND; his 17 grandchildren; his 3 great-grandchildren; his brother: Jack (Kathy) Braun, Wyndmere, ND; his sisters: Renee Burhans, Breckenridge, MN, Frances "Pat" (Larry) Horak, Mesa, AZ, Sheila (Richard) Ludwig, Eden Valley, MN, Sharon (Ralph) Brinkman, Avon, MN; his sister-in-law: JoAnn Braun, Anoka, MN.
He was preceded by his parents, Leo C. and Alice Braun; his wife, Rita Braun; his son, George Braun; his brother, Leo F. Braun.
Visitation: Friday, November 18, 2005 - 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home, Breckenridge, MN. There will also be
visitation Saturday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Funeral: Saturday, November 19, 2005 at 10:30 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Breckenridge, MN

Interment: St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Breckenridge, MN
