Bernard Lehman

September 2, 1928 — June 6, 2007

Bernard F. Lehman, 78, rural Tintah, MN, died on June 6, 2007 at his home at rural Tintah, MN.

Bernard was born September 2, 1928 at rural Tintah, MN, the son of Paul and Myrtle (Kissell) Lehman. He grew up on the farm and attended school in Tintah. On November 13, 1950, Bernard entered the U. S. Army. He served in Korea from January, 1952 until July 4, 1953. He was honorably discharged on November 13, 1953 and returned home to Tintah to farm with his father and brothers, and later with his brothers, Lawrence and Paul. Bernard was united in marriage to Rita Keller on November 15, 1955 at St. Gall's Catholic Church in Tintah. They made their home on the same farm that they presently live. Bernard retired from farming in 1983.

Bernard was an active member of St. Gall's Catholic Church. For over 30 years he was the church's head usher. He lit and maintained the Paschal Fire on Holy Saturday Night for more than 50 years. He served on the Cemetery Board for many years and served in the capacity of Sexton until his health did not allow him to do so. He was still often called on to counsel with those who had taken his position so a mistake was not made. He did much of the snow removal at the church and at St. Gall's Cemetery and was one of the main cooks at the annual Walleye Fry. He also made all of the artistic signs to advertise the annual Walleye Fry along with most of the other community events, and got them posted around a multi-county area. Although Bernard's health was not good for the past several years, he still made it to many of the events that took place at St. Gall's Church.

Bernard was a member of the Tintah American Legion #610, the Fergus Falls VFW Post #612 and the Military Honor Guard at Tintah. He was also a member of the Tintah Fire Department for over 50 years. There was never a time you couldn't count on Bernard to assist with anything that needed to be done in the Tintah community. He also enjoyed frying fish at other organizations in surrounding communities. In addition to his loyalty to his church and community, his love of his family never wavered. Bernard was always supportive and strong. He lived to see his son's youngest child graduate from high school just last Friday. After losing their son, Donnie in May, 2001, both Bernard and Rita lost much of the interest they had in going to their lake home on Ten Mile Lake. They still enjoyed having family come to their farm, a place everyone knew Bernard would live until his death.

Bernard is survived by: his wife, Rita, Rural Tintah; his daughters, MaryJo (Bob) Roggeman, Breckenridge, MN, and their children, Bernie (Kristin) and Bobbi Jo; Karol (Alan) Munson, Kenmare, ND, and their children, Ryan (Jen), Eric, Tonya (Shawn) Halvorson and Alexis; his daughter-in-law, Peggy (Mike) Corey, Kensington, MN, and her children, Nick (Laura), Heidi (Greg Blume), Tanner and Jessica; his 3 great-grandchildren, Devon Halvorson, Courtney Lehman, Hunter Blume; his brother, Lawrence Lehman, Tintah, MN; his sisters, Judith Savage, Paynesville, MN; Lucy McLemore, Tintah, MN; Helen (Gene) Kutzer, Fairmount, ND; Janice (Daniel) Keller, River Falls, WI; Adelia Stumpf, Alexandria, MN; Eileen Hecimovich, Bloomington, MN; Carol (Gene) Neyens, Maple Plain, MN; Katherine (Kevin) Beckius, Moorhead, MN; many nieces and nephews; and his black lab, Sadie.
