Bernice Hoverman, 93, Breckenridge, MN, died on Tuesday, July 19, 2005, at her residence in Appletree Court in Breckenridge.
The funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, July 21, at Breckenridge Lutheran Church, with Pastor Harvey Henderson officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Breckenridge, following the church service. There will be visitation at the church one hour prior to the funeral on Thursday.
Pallbearers will be: Ed Casey, Dale Jackson, Sherman Johnson, Harvey Lillestol, Paul Thulen and Mark Underberg.
Bernice Annette Engen was born April 5, 1912, in her parent's home in Wahpeton, North Dakota, to Nelse P. and Minnie S. (Rakstad) Engen. She grew up in Wahpeton, attended Bethel Lutheran Church and graduated from Wahpeton High School in 1930.
On June 10, 1932, Bernice married Edwin (Ed) Hoverman of Breckenridge, MN. They made their home in Breckenridge all of their lives. Bernice joined the Breckenridge Lutheran Church in 1939 and was a lifelong member of the Priscilla Circle. She adored her husband, her children and always found pleasure in reading and taking long walks with Ed. She will always be remembered for her sense of humor and quick wit.
Bernice is survived by her sons, Phil (Joan) of Breckenridge and Lynn (Sherry) of Wahpeton; her one granddaughter Tracy Hoverman (Jed) Day, Houston, TX; her three stepgrandchildren: Bill (Brenda) Gripentrog, Watertown, SD; Brandt (Rachel) Gripentrog, Brainerd, MN; and Bridgette (Jeremy) Kaspryk, Enfield, CT; her three great grandchildren: Sydney, Tyler and Cooper Day; her seven great stepgrandchildren: Joshua, Naomi and Ruth Gripentrog; Cole, Andrew and Hannah Gripentrog, and Abigail Kaspryk. Also, she is survived by her remaining brother, Roy (Delores) Engen, Missoula, MT; brother-in-law, Lawrence Olson, Wahpeton, ND, and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Nelse and Minnie Engen; her husband, Ed Hoverman; her grandson, Perry Hoverman; her brothers: Arnold and Woodrow Engen; and her sisters: Frances Olson and Phoebe Johnson.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that memorials be made to the Breckenridge Lutheran Church Quilting Fund, or to a charity of ones choice.
