Burton Younger

Burton Younger, 86, Breckenridge, MN, formerly of rural Campbell, MN, died October 9, 2009 at St. Francis Healthcare Campus in Breckenridge.



His funeral will be held on Monday, October 12, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Vukku Lutheran Church , rural Doran, MN, with Pastor John Andrews officiating.



Visitation will be Sunday, October 11, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 pm at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home, Breckenridge , MN .



Interment will be at Vukku Lutheran Church Cemetery , Doran, MN.



Pallbearers will be Lynn Erickson, Kevin Erickson, Blair Younger, Brian Younger, Stan Karlgaard, and Tim Deal; Honorary Pallbearers are all of Burton ’s grandchildren.



Burton was born May 2, 1923 near Britton , SD , the son of Carl Alfred and Elvira (Skoog) Younger. At the age of six he moved with his family to the farm he lived on most of his life near Campbell , MN . He attended country school and graduated from Campbell High School in 1941. Following graduation he continued living at home and farming.



On December 20, 1947 Burton was united in marriage to Eileen Funkhouser at Dalton , MN . They made their home and raised their daughters on the home farm and continued farming. Burton also worked as a carpenter and sold Trojan brand seed corn. He was a Wilkin County ASCS field man and served on the Wilkin Soil Conservation Board for 12 years, the Valley Lake Boys Home Board for over 20 years and was a rural telephone lineman for many years. He also served on the Vukku Lutheran Church council for many years.



Burt retired from farming in 1986, but continued living on the home farm until 1997, when he and Eileen moved to Breckenridge , MN . He became a resident of St. Francis Home in April, 2008.



Burt was a member of the Vukku Lutheran Church , Wilkin County Historical Society, Sons of Norway, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2749, where he was voted Father of the Year in 2006. He enjoyed farming, gardening, carpentry, traveling and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.



He is survived by his wife, Eileen Younger, Breckenridge, MN; His three daughters: Deborah Kay Anderson (fiancé Kent Roesler), Wahpeton, ND; Denise LeAnn (Jeff) Labrensz, Sheyenne, ND; Dawn Renee (Dan) Elton, Moorhead, MN; His seven grandchildren: Ryan (Julie) Anderson; Melissa (Vern) Rossman; Aaron Labrensz; Allison (fiancé Matt Pfeiffer) Labrensz; Charia Anderson; Lindsey Anderson; and Alleise Anderson; His great-grandchildren: Ryne and Bryce Anderson; and Lauren and Levi Rossman; His sister: Florence Erickson, New Rockford, ND; His sister-in-law: Phyllis Younger, Burbank, CA; Many nieces and nephews.



He was preceded in death by his parents: Carl Alfred and Elvira Younger; His brothers and sisters-in-law: Bennie; Gus and Eunice; Ray and Betty; and Edwin and June Younger; His son-in-law: Jack Anderson; His nephew: Charles “Chuck” Younger; His brother-in-law: Clarence Erickson.



In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Valley Lake Boys Home, Vukku Church or Hospice.
