Carol Ostby, 73 of Breckenridge, MN passed away at Sanford Health of Fargo on Sunday, March 13, 2011. The visitation is Thursday, March 17 from 4 pm to 7 pm with a rosary at 4:30 and a prayer service at 7 pm. at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home, Breckenridge, MN. The funeral is Friday, March 18 at 11 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Breckenridge, MN with Father Kenneth Popp officiating. The interment is at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery Breckenridge, MN.
Carol was born on June 3, 1937 to Levi and Dorothy (Gregoire) Roy in Red Lake Falls, MN. She grew up, attended school and graduated from Erskine, MN. On November 22, 1955 Carol married Harvey Ostby at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Mentor, MN. They lived in Barstow, CA for one year while Harvey was in the US Army then they returned to her hometown of Erskine. In 1965, they moved to Breckenridge, MN. Carol began a rather extensive career in 1967 as a bookkeeper/ accountant, at First National Bank of Breckenridge. She then took a job at NDSCS and later found employment at RoBanks where she remained for 20 years. She ended her career at Dean's Landscaping and Schmitty's Plumbing and Heating.
Carol was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, the American Legion Auxiliary (where she kept books for many years), and the Historical Society. Carol was an avid reader, and in her spare time she enjoyed bowling, card club, seasonal camping and going to the Vets Club. She treasured the time spent with her grandchildren.
Carol is survived by her husband Harvey Ostby of Wahpeton, ND; her children Robert (Lorrie) Ostby of Monticello, MN; and Kathryn (Michael) Lenk of Breckenridge, MN; her 6 grandchildren Zachinary Marino, Aleca Marino, Tyler Marino, Joseph Lenk, Christopher Lenk, and Michelle Lenk; her sister Ann Marie Roy of Reno, Nevada; her son-in-law Andres Marino of Vila Park, California.
Carol is preceded in death by her parents Levi and Dorothy (Gregoire) Roy; her daughter Angela Marino; her son Wesley Ostby in infancy.
