Clifford William Gowin was born June 10, 1913 on the Marsh Farm, in rural Fairmount, ND, the son of Orman and Maggie (Bresnahan) Gowin. He attended country school and grew up working on the family farm. Cliff always enjoyed farming, and in his early adult years, dancing and going to house dances.

Cliff was united in marriage to Helen Lyngaas on November 21, 1938 at Sisseton, SD. The couple made their home on a farm near Doran, MN, where they raised their family and operated a family dairy and grain operation. The couple enjoyed dancing, particularly square dancing for many years. Music kept him tapping to the very end of his life. He also had a quick wit and appreciated and created humor on a regular basis. He was a pool player, a tough competitor in the independent living circuit. Cliff spent a lot of time throughout the years playing cards and trading jokes. Spending time with family and friends was his priority.

Cliff served as Brandrup Township Board Supervisor for over 20 years. He also served as an elder and a trustee of the Doran Presbyterian Church for several years. He and Helen were winter visitors of Arizona since 1977 and became residents there in 1992     . Helen preceded him in death on April 20, 1996. Cliff has continued living in Mesa.
