Doris Hollands

March 17, 1921 — December 25, 2006

Doris Hollands, 85, Wahpeton, ND, formerly of Dwight, ND, died December 25, 2006 at St. Catherine's Living Center, Wahpeton, ND. Her funeral will be held on Thursday, December 28, at 11:00 AM at Faith Lutheran Church, Dwight, ND with Pastor Gordon Lee officiating.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 27, from 4:00 PM to 7:00PM with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home, Breckenridge, MN. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Burial will be at Faith Lutheran Church Cemetery, Dwight, ND.

Doris is survived by: Her son: Gary Hollands, Dwight, ND; Her 2 daughters: Pastor Sandy Hollands, Fergus Falls, MN and Judi Mikkelson, Breckenridge, MN; Her 5 grandchildren: Tara (Glenn) Klostreich, Trista Mikkelson, Tertia (Kyle) Christensen, Ty (Stefani) Mikkelson and Spencer Hollands; Her 6 great-grandchildren: Seth Klostreich, Cole Praus, Connor and Zackary Willprecht, Addie Christensen and Zane Mikkelson; Many nieces and nephews; Her special friends: Iola Anderson and Ella Larson

She was preceded in death by:Her parents: Emil and Clara Olson; Her husband: George A. Hollands; Her two brothers: Clyde and Gaylord

Doris was born March 17, 1921 in Dwight, ND, where she also grew up and attended grade school. She furthered her education in Wahpeton, ND, where she attended high school. Doris then worked for Swift & Company in Breckenridge, MN.

On April 12, 1941, Doris was married to George A. Hollands at Breckenridge Lutheran Church. They made their home in Wahpeton and later moved to Dwight, where they lived most of their married life. Doris worked at the Carl Jensen Creamery. George preceded her in death on March 26, 2003.

Doris was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church and Aagoth Circle, Sunday school teacher and served on the church council and cemetery board. She was also a member of the Wahpeton Eagles Auxiliary Drill Team, and served as a 4-H leader.

Doris enjoyed the Minnesota Twins, Golden Glove Boxing and the Minnesota Vikings. She wrote poetry and could recite many poems. She also enjoyed attending horse shows and was extremely interested in the NASA Space Program. Doris always enjoyed the fact that she was born on St. Patrick's Day and was extremely proud of her Norwegian ancestry. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Honorary Pallbearers: Addie Christensen, Zane Mikkelson, Ryland Syverson, Kent Quamme, Scott Brand, Steve Beach, Doug Beach, Carol Nelson, Bruce Olson and Roger Olson and all who called Doris "Friend."
