She then furthered her formal education by attending school in Wheaton, MN, in order to become a teacher. Dorothy then taught at country schools in Grant and Steven's Counties.

On June 21, 1949, Dorothy married Edward Keller at St. Charles Catholic Church in Herman. They made their home on the farm near Tintah, where they farmed and raised their 5 children. In 1969 the couple moved into Tintah.

Dorothy enjoyed being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed cooking and baking, potato salad and pies being her specialties. Her children remember her saying, "I don't know if I was a good mom, but I know I am a good grandmother." She thoroughly enjoyed the time she spent with her family at their lodge in the woods near Perham, and enjoyed fishing, both in the summer and in the winter. She was also an excellent quilter and seamstress. Dorothy had an exceptional memory for names and dates.

Dorothy's Catholic religion was always very important to her. She was an active member of St. Gall's Catholic Church in Tintah and St. Mary's Aide. Dorothy was very dedicated to teaching First Communion catechism to the religion students at St. Gall's Parish, where she taught religion for over 20 years.
