Ellamae was born Nov. 16, 1913 to Magnus and Adeline (Lundberg) Palmquist near Fergus Falls, MN. She grew up and attended school near Fergus Falls and went on to graduate from Fergus Falls High School. As a young woman, Ella married Elnar Nelson at Fergus Falls. They had two sons together, Dale and Lyle. Elnar passed away at the age of 27 from Hodgkin's disease. In 1940 she married John P. Friederichs in Breckenridge, MN. Into this marriage John brought with him his seven children: John "Wallace," Florence, Julia, Marguerite, William "Bill," Mary and Peter. The couple farmed in the Breckenridge area and had five additional children, Theresa, Gilbert, Paul, Mike and Tom. In 1976 they retired and moved into Breckenridge. John passed away in 1982 and Ella continued living in the Wahpeton-Breckenridge area. In 1999 Ella moved to the Leech Home in Wahpeton, and then in 2001 she became a resident of St. Francis Nursing Home.
Ella enjoyed serving her community in many organizations which included being a St. Francis Medical Center volunteer for over 20 years. She was an active member of the Sunnyside Homemakers group. She was also a member of St. Mary's Church, Christian Mothers, and the Catholic Order of Foresters. After her children were grown she took pride in caring for the elderly at the Leech Home in Wahpeton.
Ella was very proud of her Swedish heritage and it was an important part of this culture that she carried through her life. She enjoyed gardening and spending time at the lake in her later years. Preparing meals and having everyone into her home gave great pleasure to her as a dedicated mother and grandmother.
