Esther Urang

February 26, 1905 — January 22, 2005

Astrid "Esther" Urang, 99, of Breckenridge, MN, died Jan. 22, 2005 at St. Francis Home in Breckenridge. Her funeral will be Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2005 at 11:00 AM at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home Chapel, Breckenridge, MN. Officiating will be Pastor Michael Gustafson. Visitation will be Monday, January 24, 2005, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home, Breckenridge. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Breckenridge.

Esther is survived by: Her 2 granddaughters: Karen Carruthers and Bonnie Thompson; Her 5 grandsons: David, Kevin and Mark Urang;and Lionel and Jeff Wanek; Her great-grandchildren; Her brothers: Alvin (Charlotte) Sandness, Valley City, ND; Elmer (Evelyn) Sandness, Jamestown, ND

She was preceded by: Her parents: Christin and Lena Sandness; Her husband: Selzer Urang; Her daughter: Muriel Wanek; Her 2 sons: Ardean Urang and an infant son, Leonard. Her sister: Clara Skretting; Her brothers: Sigvart, Conrad, Alfred, Melvin and Palmer Sandness

Esther was born in Barnes County near Litchville, ND to Christin and Lena (Londahl) Sandness on February 26, 1905. She lived on a farm near Litchville and attended school through the eighth grade at the Rosebud Country School. Esther spent her teen years helping her mother with housework and helping with her brothers and sister.

On April 3, 1926 she married Selzer Urang, and had three children. They lived on a farm near Litchville. Esther was employed at the Svea School as a cook and was also employed at a restaurant in Valley City, ND. In 1969 they moved to Citrus Heights, CA and then moved to Breckenridge, MN in 1975. Selzer preceded her in death on March 18, 1990. Esther became a resident of St. Francis Home in May, 2001. She was a member of Breckenridge Lutheran Church and BLW circle. She enjoyed baking bread and making donuts, giving her baked goods to others and inviting friends and neighbors over to visit. She also enjoyed crocheting, sewing, singing and reading the Bible.
