Fern Gruenberg

Fern Gruenberg, 82, Breckenridge, MN, died July 24, 2006 at her home in Breckenridge. Her funeral will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2006 at 10:00 AM at Grace Lutheran Church, Breckenridge. Pastor Burt Benson will be officiating. Visitation will be on Friday, July 28, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM with Devotions at 7:00 PM all at Grace Lutheran Church, Breckenridge.There will also be visitation one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Breckenridge.

She is survived by: Her children: Larry (Marjie) Gruenberg, Goodhue, MN; Rodney (Lenae) Gruenberg, Lee's Summit, MO; Paul (Karol) Gruenberg, Clear Lake, SD; Allyson (David) Kuehn, Waconia, MN; Mark Gruenberg, Mandan, ND; Her 12 grandchildren; Her 7 great-grandchildren; Her sisters: Stella Knudson, Detroit Lakes, MN; Ruby Eggum, St. Paul, MN; Donna "Tootsie" Moltzan, Frazee, MN.

She is preceded in death by: Her parents: Andrew and Clara Soland; Her husband: A. W. "Buster" Gruenberg; Her brothers: Joe, Kenneth, Merten and Elroy

Fern was born August 26, 1923 near Vergas, MN, the daughter of Andrew and Clara (Trustall) Soland. She grew up and attended District 232 Country School. Following her formal education, Fern did housekeeping for other families and also worked in a restaurant at Comstock, MN. On June 22, 1946, Fern was united in marriage to Aloysius W. Gruenberg in Comstock. They lived in Wolverton, MN until 1959, when they moved to Breckenridge, MN. In 1969, Fern began working at the Breckenridge Middle School and later worked at Breckenridge High School as a cook. She also worked as supervisor at the Breckenridge City Hall Canteen, where she was affectionately known as "Ma" to the local youth.

Fern enjoyed baking, holidays, hosting family gatherings and spending time with her friends.
