Florence Summerville

September 12, 1915 — January 18, 2006

Florence Summerville, 90, of Wahpeton, ND, formerly of Breckenridge, MN died on Wednesday, January 18, 2006 at St. Catherine's Living Center in Wahpeton, ND. The funeral service will be on Saturday, January 21, 2006 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Breckenridge, MN officiated by Father Kenneth Popp. Visitation will be Friday, January 20, 2006 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a Christian Mothers Rosary at 4:30 PM and a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home, Breckenridge, MN. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Breckenridge, MN.



Florence is survived by: her daughter, Claudette Summerville, Portland, OR,; her three grandchildren, Shane Ritzer, Amy Hart, and David Hart; her brother, Dennis (Edith) Beaudin, Kent, MN; her sister, Eunice (Ralph) Kinneberg, Casper, WY; and many nieces and nephews.



She was preceded by: her parents, Albert and Alice Grenier; her husband, William Summerville; her daughter, Darnell Hart; her brothers, Lester, Hector, and Chester Grenier; her sisters, Beulah Stach, Myrtle Wetherbee, and Esther Larson.



Florence was born on September 12, 1915 in Roberts Township near Kent, MN to Albert and Alice (Beaudin) Grenier. She grew up and attended country school in Roberts Township until the eighth grade. She then went to work doing housekeeping around the community. During World War II she worked at the ammunition plant in New Brighton, MN.

Florence was united in marriage to William Summerville on November 19, 1946 at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Kent, MN. They made their home in Doran, MN where William was the village blacksmith. William preceded her in death on October 27, 1958 and she continued to live in Doran until 1962 when she moved to Breckenridge. Florence was a homemaker until she went to work at St. Francis Hospital and Home in 1957. She began working in Dietary then she became a Certified Nurse Assistant and worked until she retired at the age of 80. Florence was a very active volunteer at St. Francis Campus and at St. Catherine's Living Center for many years.

Florence was a member of the Guild Circle, Christian Mothers, and the Mother Cabrini Mission Circle. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary, Eagles Auxiliary, and the Women's Relief Corp. Florence enjoyed bowling, gardening, crocheting, embroidering, and she walked miles a day.
