History: Gordon Otto David was known by all who loved him as a generous and gentle man who always thought of others and rarely of himself. His concern for others was evident through his last day. "Gordy" will also be remembered as a great kidder who brought much laughter and joy to those around him. We are all thankful for the years we had with him.
He was born on March 9, 1929 to Otto and Emma (Willprecht) David in Lidgerwood, ND. He attended school in rural Lidgerwood and served in the U. S. Army from 1951 - 1953 in Korea.
On April 25, 1959 Gordon married Arlene Gayle Nelson at Immanuel Church in rural DeLamere, ND. They enjoyed 45 years together and raised four daughters; Lonna, Julene, Andrine and Robin. The couple made their home in Wahpeton, ND.
After fulfilling his military service, he attended the North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton. He then bought a grocery store in Sharon, ND, which he ran for approximately two years. He spent much of his life working in manufacturing and semi-retired in 1995. Three years later he retired permanently.
In 1998, Gordon was diagnosed with kidney cancer, which he fought bravely for six years. He passed away at home, surrounded by his family, on June 10, 2004.
Gordon enjoyed being outside, walking, doing yard work, woodworking and following the Minnesota Twins. Most of all, though, Gordon loved spending time with his large family, including his four daughters, four sons-in-law and eight grandchildren. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church and the American Legion in Wahpeton, ND, and former member of the Alphean Male Chorus.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Riveredge Hospice, 415 Oak St., Breckenridge, MN and the American Cancer Society.
