Helene Blaufuss, 87, Breckenridge, MN passed away on Friday, February 24, 2006 at St. Francis Nursing Home, Breckenridge, MN. The funeral service will be at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, February 28, 2006 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Breckenridge, MN with Father Kenneth Popp Officiating. Visitation will be Monday, February 27, 2006 from 4 PM to 8 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home, Breckenridge, MN. A Christian Mother's Rosary will be at 5 PM. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the service at the Funeral Home. Interment will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Breckenridge, MN.
Helene is survived by her five children: Jim (Jackie) Blaufuss, Breckenridge, MN; Larry (Patsy) Blaufuss, Madelia, MN; John (Deb) Blaufuss, Breckenridge, MN; Carol (Mike) Poppel, Breckenridge, MN; Bob (Donna) Blaufuss, Breckenridge, MN; her 16 grandchildren; her 14 great-grandchildren; her two sisters, Elma Haas, Orange City, FL; Katherine Moe, Fargo, ND; her two brothers, Alfred (Junette) Keating, Arlington Heights, IL, Raymond (Jean) Keating, Port Aransas, TX; her brother-in-law, Frank Howley, Edina, MN
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Caroline Keating; her husband, Eugene Blaufuss; her grandson, Mike Blaufuss; her sister, Madeline Howley.
Helene was born on October 30, 1918 to John and Caroline (Zanzinger) Keating in Wahpeton, ND. She grew up and attended school in Wahpeton and graduated in 1935. She attended St. Francis School of Nursing and graduated in 1938. She then worked at St. Francis Hospital.
Helene was united in marriage to Eugene Blaufuss on May 3, 1941 at St. John's Catholic Church in Wahpeton. They lived in Wahpeton and Kent, MN until 1948 when they moved to Breckenridge. She continued to work on a part time basis and later worked as a private duty nurse. Eugene preceded her in death on October 9, 1998. Helene continued to live on the home farm until January 2006. She passed away on Friday, February 24th at St. Francis Nursing Home surrounded by her family.
Helene took a great deal of pride in being a homemaker, and especially enjoyed her time spent outdoors maintaining her large vegetable garden, flower garden and farm yard. She never lost interest in the farming operation, and was always concerned about weather and crop conditions. She was also very proud of her family and enjoyed keeping track of their activities.
