Irene Buchholz, age 100, died March 17, 2004 at Rosewood on Broadway in Fargo.
Irene was born February 24, 1904, in Mitchell Township near Wolverton, Minnesota, the daughter of Louis and Louise (Doege) Prieb. Irene was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church, Wolverton. She grew up on the home farm and attended country school in Mitchell Township. On April 25, 1925, she was united in marriage to Albert F. Buchholz. They farmed and lived in the Wolverton area until 1947 when they moved to Christine, ND.
Albert preceded her in death on April 25, 1973. Irene continued living in Christine until 1997, when she became a resident of St. Catherine's Living Center in Wahpeton. Later in 1997, she moved to Rosewood on Broadway in Fargo, ND where she has since resided.
Irene was formerly an active member of the Wolverton American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening, picking potatoes, canning, and cooking for family gatherings.
Irene is survived by her daughters, Margie Long, Tulsa, OK; Frances (Tom) Williams, Broken Arrow, OK; Faye LaVonne Groen, Scottsdale, AZ; Jeanie Swenson, Fargo, ND; and Cheryl (Ron) Affield, Kent, MN; and her sons: Leo, Fergus Falls, MN; Glen (Jane), Breckenridge, MN; Loren (Mary), Hewitt, MN; Louis (Sharon),Tacna, AZ; and Albert Jr. (LaVy McGray), Wolverton, MN.
She is also survived by 24 Grandchildren, 33 Great-grandchildren, one Great-great grandchild, a brother: Bill Prieb, Moorhead, MN, a sister-in-law: Gladys Prieb, Barnesville, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Louise Prieb, her husband, Albert F. Buchholz, her sons, Earl and Donald "Pete", her sister, Esther Hansen, her three brothers, Ted, Leo and Ralph.
The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 22, 2004 at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Breckenridge, Minnesota, with Pastor Chuck Belzer officiating. Visitation will be held 4-6 p.m. Sunday, March 21, 2004 at the funeral home. Interment will be in Mitchell Township Cemetery, Rural Wolverton, Minnesota.
Pallbearers are Quinn Affield, Kyle Affield, Mike Long, Loren Buchholz Jr., Tom Williams, and Ron Affield; and Honorary Pallbearers are all of Irene's grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
