Irene W. Klemm, 79, of Wahpeton, ND, passed away on Monday, August 27, 2007 at St. Catherine?s Living Center, Wahpeton, ND. Funeral services will be on Thursday, August 30, 2007 at 11:00 AM at Grace Lutheran Church, Breckenridge, MN with Pastor Burt Benson officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday, August 29, 2007 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home, Breckenridge, MN. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Breckenridge, MN.
Irene was born January 30, 1928 near Graceville, MN, the daughter of Willis and Wilma (Menge) Blackledge. She attended various country schools in the Graceville and Wheaton, MN area. Following her formal education, Irene worked for other families in the area. On March 8, 1945, she was married to Robert Klemm in Wheaton. Irene stayed on the Klemm farm near Browns Valley while Robert served in the Army. Following his discharge in 1947, the couple made their home near Wheaton. They moved to Breckenridge, MN in 1962. It was then that Irene began working at Kelly?s Steak House in Wahpeton, ND where she worked for twenty years and then as a cook for the Wahpeton School District until 2005. She also did cleaning for Richland County Implement in Wahpeton for several years.
Irene enjoyed bowling and bowled with the association for over thirty years. She also loved to cook and volunteer at the VFW, the Wahpeton Senior Center and wherever she could help. Fishing, camping and spending time with her friends and especially her family were also favorite pastimes. Irene was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and LWML in Breckenridge and the American Legion Auxiliary in Wahpeton.
Irene is survived by her 3 children: Ralph (Sharon) Klemm, Campbell, MN; Kathy (Filipe) Hernandez, Battle Lake, MN; Steven (Vickie) Klemm, Richville, MN; her 3 grandchildren: Jeffrey Rust, Amy Kuehl, Sara (Troy) DeMorett; her 6 great-grandchildren: Dylan, Kyle, Tyler and Tayler Rust and Messa and Kiley Kuehl; her brothers and sisters: Lavern (Marie) Blackledge, Alexandria, MN; Lavoy Blackledge, Breckenridge, MN; Helen Finke, Austin, MN; Lillian Hicks, Wahpeton, ND; Florence (Elmer) Lemke, Sturgeon Lake, MN; James (Jeri) Blackledge, Twisp, WA; Roy Blackledge, Little Falls, MN; Karen Klindworth, Prior Lake, MN; Wayne Blackledge, Wheaton, MN; JoAnn (Ron) Haaland, Moorhead, MN.
She is preceded in death by: her husband: Robert Klemm; her parents: Wilma and Willis Blackledge; her brother: Roger Blackledge; her grandchildren: Robby Rust and Jenny Rust; her grandson-in-law: Staff Sergeant David Kuehl; her brothers-in-law: Kenneth Klindworth and Lyle Finke.
