James Thiel, 84, Breckenridge, MN, died February 13, 2005 at St. Francis Medical Center, Breckenridge. The funeral for Jim will be Wednesday, February 16, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Breckenridge, with Fr. Kenneth Popp officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 15, from 4:00 PM to 7:30 PM with a prayer Service at 7:00 PM at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home, Breckenridge. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be atSt. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Breckenridge.
Jim is survived by: His 3 sons: Richard (Juanita) Thiel, Boise, Idaho; William (Lucinda) Thiel, Breckenridge, MN; James (Heather) Thiel, Cottage Grove, MN; His 4 grandchildren: Richelle, Erica, Chelsea and Christopher; His sisters-in-law: Clarice, Dora, Cecelia and Darilyn; Many nieces and nephews.

James Nicholas Thiel was born March 12, 1920 at Barney, ND, the son of John and Ursula (Foertsch) Thiel. He attended country school and Mooreton No. 4 Rural School.
Following his formal education, Jim farmed with his father until entering the U. S. Army in March, 1942. He served in WWII in the South Pacific and was discharged in October, 1945. He then returned to this area and began farming. On October 8, 1946, Jim was united in marriage to Loretta Krump at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Mantador, ND. In 1949, the couple moved to Minnesota and made their home near Breckenridge, where they farmed until 1971. Jim then began working at Cargill where he was employed until his retirement in 1982. He then worked at Red River Service until 1998, retiring due to his health.
Jim was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Breckenridge and Eagles Club Aerie 2749, VFW Post 4324 and American Legion Post 20 all in Wahpeton. He was a Life Member of both the American Legion and the VFW. Jim enjoyed Bingo, cards, socializing and especially the time he spent with family and friends.
