Joan Braun, 65, Eagle Lake, near Battle Lake, MN passed away on Friday, November 2, 2007 after a courageous battle with cancer at her residence with her family by her side. Funeral services will be on Thursday, November 8, 2007 at 10:30 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Breckenridge, MN with Father Bob Kiefer officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday, November 7, 2007 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home, Breckenridge, MN. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the funeral at the funeral home. Interment will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Breckenridge, MN.

Joan is survived by, her husband, Jim Braun, Eagle Lake near Battle Lake, MN; her children, Terry (Susan) Braun, Moorhead, MN, and their children, Britney and Abby; Sandy (Curt) Markel, Fargo, ND, their children, Taylor and Lindsey; Sheryl (Jason) Hauf, Dilworth, MN, and their children, Joshua, Jimmy, Jacob and Hayden; Shelly (Jay) Kadoun, Britton, SD, and their children, Morgan, Connor, and Braun; her mother, Edith Bommersbach, Breckenridge, MN; her brother, Roger (Mary) Bommersbach, Hankinson, ND.

She was preceded in death by her father, John "Barney" Bommersbach.

Joan was born on February 23, 1942 in Hankinson, ND to Barney and Edith (Johnson) Bommersbach. She grew up in Hankinson and attended St. Francis Academy and graduated in 1960. After graduating she moved to Wahpeton, ND and worked various jobs in the area.

Joan was united in marriage to Jim Braun on July 7, 1962 at St. Phillips Catholic Church in Hankinson. She worked in the optical business where she managed Midwest Vision Center in Breckenridge until 1983. In 1984 they moved to Moorhead and opened Braun's Opticare and later opened Braun's Opticare in Breckenridge. In 1991 they moved to Sioux Falls, SD where she continued in the optical business. She then started Silhouette Catering and operated that for six years. After that she started her own promotional business called Braun's Promotional.



Joan was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Battle Lake, and many professional organizations including: Main Street in Sioux Falls, Sales Marketing Executives, and Women in Business in Sioux Falls. Joan enjoyed being with her husband, children and grandchildren, entertaining, crafts, gardening, and sharing family time at the lake.
