Joan Solhjem, 80, Hankinson, ND, died October 14, 2007 at Innovis Health, Fargo, ND.
Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at 11:00 AM at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home Chapel, Breckenridge, MN, with Rev. Wayne Quibell officiating.
Visitation will be Wednesday, October 17, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home, Breckenridge, MN. Interment will be at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Rural Leonard, ND.
She is survived by: Her sister: Margaret Torgerson, Beaver Creek, OR; Her nieces and nephews: John Solhjem, Des Moines, IA; Myrna (Delano) Lotzer, Wahpeton, ND; Dawna Vargas, Chandler, AZ; Cheryl Dalton, Walcott, ND; Diana Torgerson, Beaver Creek, OR; Many great and great-great nieces and nephews; Her special friend: Bonnie Gutzmer, Hankinson, ND.
She is preceded in death by:Her parents: Frederick and Agnes Solhjem; Her brother: John Solhjem; Her nephew: Gerald Solhjem; Her brother-in-law: Harvey Torgerson
Joan Antoinette Solhjem was born and raised in Sheyenne Township of Richland County, near Leonard, ND, the daughter of Frederick and Agnes (Liedahl) Solhjem. The family would spend their winters in Wyndmere, ND until the 1970's when she and her parents became residents of St. Francis Home in Breckenridge, MN. Joan later became a resident of Dakota Estates in Lidgerwood, ND. In 2002, Joan moved in to St. Gerard's Community Nursing Home in Hankinson, ND.
Joan was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of rural Leonard, ND. She enjoyed airplanes and wanted to learn how to fly. She also enjoyed electronics, listening to music and was a nature lover, especially of the sand hills. Joan also enjoyed Halloween and Christmas and will be missed this upcoming season by all who knew and loved her.
