Julian Olson

March 27, 1915 — July 17, 2005

Julian Olson, 90, of Breckenridge, MN passed away on Sunday, July 17, 2005 at the St. Francis Healthcare Campus in Breckenridge. Funeral Services will be Friday, July 22, 2005 at 11:00am at Breckenridge Lutheran Church, Breckenridge,MN with Pastor Harvey Henderson officiating.

Interment will be in First Lutheran Church Cemetery of Battle Lake, MN. Visitation will be Thursday, July 21, 2005, from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home, Breckenridge, MN. There will be no prayer service that evening. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the funeral at the church



Julian was born March 27, 1915, to Thina (Engen) and Nils Olson on the family farm near Dalton, MN. After his mother died in 1918 and his father in 1920, he went to live with foster parents, Carl and Carrie Swendsrud of Dalton. He attended schools in Dalton and Fergus Falls. Julian worked on farms in the area. He was employed by Otter Tail Power Co. in 1938 and was called to military service in the Army in 1941 and served in the US Army 90th Division, Company F359. Julian was involved in the Normandy invasion of France in June 1944, at Utah Beach; crossed France, Luxembourg, Germany, and ended up in Czechoslovakia. Julian was in the European theatre for 21 months and was involved in major battles at Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Aural Europe. He was honorably discharged after 4A� years at the rank of sergeant.                                                             Julian returned to work at Otter Tail Power Co. in 1946. He worked on construction crews, was a construction foreman, worked district crew, did line and service trouble shooting and meter reading. He was a co-owner of the Spot CafAsh in Underwood, MN, for a short time. He retired from Otter Tail Power in 1980, after 42 years of employment.

In 1949, he married Hazel Albertson in Dalton, MN. They had four children. Hazel died in 1974. In 1980, he married Norma Jensen in Breckenridge, MN. Julian was an active member of Breckenridge Lutheran Church, Sons of Norway, VFW Post 612 Fergus Falls, MN, and attended many 90th Division reunions. Julian and Norma spent winters in Texas and made two trips to Norway to visit relatives. He enjoyed fishing, listening to Twins baseball, wood working, traveling, and visiting his many friends and relatives in addition to gardening, and farming his 80-acre farm near Battle Lake, MN.

Julian dearly loved and was very proud of his family. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, family, and friends. He will be greatly missed by family and will remain in our hearts forever.

Darrell) Stuehrenberg, Davie, FL; Linette(Dave) Meyer, Breckenridge; Linnea(Frank) Anderson, Fargo, ND; and son Lonny Olson, Golden Valley, MN; grandchildren Christopher(Sonya) Stuehrenberg, Tarpon Springs, FL; Bryce Stuehrenberg, Davie, FL; Tina Stuehrenberg, Davie, FL; Jason Meyer, Breckenridge; Trevor(Amber) Meyer, Breckenridge, MN; Shane Meyer, Fargo, ND; Brett Meyer, Grand Forks, ND; Tara(Matt) Andvik, Moorhead, MN; Bridger Anderson,     Fargo, ND; Mitchell Olson, Golden Valley, MN; great grandchildren, Christina and Marina Stuehrenberg, Kyla Andvik; two stepsons, Bryon (Rhonda) Jensen, Cold Spring, MN; Curtis(LeeAnn) Jensen, Moorhead, MN; step-grandchildren, James, Karen, Jeff, Jeremy and Jodi Jensen; a step great granddaughter, Kaile Jensen.

Julian was preceded in death by: his parents, Thina and Nils Olson, brothers; Olaf, Einar, Carsten, Nobel, Ingvald, and sister; Clara and his first wife, Hazel.
