Kenneth Carney

Kenneth J. Carney, 102, of Breckenridge , MN , died August 27, 2008 at St. Francis Home in Breckenridge.



His funeral will be held on Wednesday, September 3, 2008, at 1:00 p.m. at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home Chapel, Breckenridge , MN , with Pastor Terry Tilton officiating. Visitation will be one half hour prior to the funeral at the funeral home. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery , rural Breckenridge.



Ken is survived by his daughter: Gail Koenig, Portland, OR; His four grandchildren: Rick (Kathy) Carney, Waukesha, WI; Ronda (Paul) Stock, Detroit Lakes, MN; John (Kara) Koenig, Portland, OR; Anne (Andy) Snider, Portland, OR; and seven great-grandchildren.



He was preceded in death by: His parents: James and Emmaline Carney; His wife: Leone Carney; His son: Dennis Carney; Three sisters: Gladys Carney, Marion Trent, and Louise Harris.



Kenneth James Carney was born February 9, 1906 in Breckenridge , MN , the son of James and Emmaline (Jurgensen) Carney. He moved to Larimore , ND with his family where they lived for a short time before returning to Wahpeton, ND, where he grew up and attended school. Ken furthered his education at North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, where he graduated. Following his formal education, Ken began working for Holsum Bakery in Fargo , ND , eventually obtaining his own sales route. He worked for Holsum for over 40 years.



On November 21, 1936, Kenneth was united in marriage to Leone Mae Griggs. They made their home in Fargo until moving to Breckenridge in 1941. Following his retirement from Holsum, Ken continued living in Breckenridge. He enjoyed golfing to the point that he was the manager of the Bois de Sioux Golf Shop for ten years. Ken and Leone also enjoyed wintering in Arizona . Leone preceded him in death on October 31, 1996. Ken lived for many years at the York Manor in Breckenridge. He became a resident of St. Francis Home in June, 2006.



Ken was a member of the United Methodist Church in Breckenridge and the Bois de Sioux Golf Club. Besides playing golf, Ken enjoyed fishing and bowling with Leone.
