August 13, 1950 — August 9, 2006

Kevin John Weiss, 55, of Seaside, OR, died Wednesday, August 9, at his home. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary's Church in Breckenridge, MN, on Thursday, August 24, 2006 at 1:00 PM with Fr. Richard Walz officiating. Interment will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Brushvale, MN.

Kevin was born August 13, 1950 in Breckenridge, MN, to Flo (Pechlat) Weiss and the late Marvin Weiss. For most of his childhood he lived in Seaside, OR, with his mother and brother, Dennis Weiss. He graduated from Seaside High School in 1968. After graduation he enlisted in the U. S. Navy Air Force and received his basic training in San Diego, CA. He was then stationed at Millington Air Force Base in Memphis, TN, and was later stationed at Meridian Naval Air Station, Meridian, MS. From there he was sent to Prisoner of War training in California, and then to Vietnam where he was assigned to the Flying Tiger-9 squadron, a helicopter unit, ferrying troops to the front lines and returning the dead and wounded. Upon return to the States, he was employed at the lumber mill in Warrenton, OR, now owned by Weyerhaeuser, as lumber shipping leadman, for the past 34 years.

In 1974 Kevin was united in marriage to Donet Johnson in Seaside. Two children were born of this union. Kevin was a member of the American Legion, Elks Unlimited and was a captain in the Seaside Fire Department where he served for many years. He was an avid clam digger, and he loved to fish and hunt. He loved the high mountains where he hunted elk, and called them "Heaven." He loved all things of nature and fed many families of raccoons behind his house, and the hummingbirds were his special joy. He took such pride in his beautiful home and was a meticulous housekeeper. He also took pride in his flower gardens and yard. He was interested in buying a place on Pelican Lake near Ashby, MN and wanted to retire here very soon. Kevin will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him.

He is survived by: His 2 daughters: Tara (Adam) Eskina, Queens Creek, Arizona; Kelly (William) Martinet, Sunland Park, New Mexico; His grandson: Kyle Eskina; His mother: Flo Weiss, Breckenridge, MN; His brother: Dennis (Diane) Weiss, Seaside, OR; His best friend: John (Ruby) Yuill, Astoria, OR; His niece, two nephews, a great-nephew, and many aunts, uncles and cousins who loved him.
