Leonard Sethre, 100, St. Catherine's Living Center, Wahpeton, ND, died November 7, 2005 at St. Catherine's Living Center. Leonard was born August 12, 1905 the son of Christian and Laura (Thrugstad) Sethre on the home farm near Carlisle, MN in Ottertail County. He attended school at a country school through the 8th grade, and then farmed with his family. On October 2, 1928, Leonard was united in marriage to Dorothy Scheidegger at the Fairmount Methodist Church in Fairmount, ND. The couple made their home on the farm near Carlisle. In 1940, they moved to a farm east of Fairmount where they farmed until their retirement in 1967. They continued living on the farm until 1973, when they moved to Breckenridge, MN.
Leonard's greatest loves were his family and music. He sang and was an excellent violinist. Leonard volunteered many years entertaining at nursing homes and various community events. He also had a love for birds and enjoyed raising them.
Leonard was named outstanding Senior Citizen in Wilkin County in 1993 and received a letter of commendation from Governor Arnie Carlson. In addition to turning 100 years old this year, Leonard and Dorothy were also able to celebrate their 77th wedding anniversary.
He is survived by: His wife: Dorothy, St. Catherine's Living Center, Wahpeton, ND; His 2 sons: Leroy (Julie) Sethre, Breckenridge, MN; and Russel (Kathy) Sethre, Fergus Falls, MN; His daughter: Joyce (Harvey) Brause, Fergus Falls, MN; His 8 grandchildren; his 12 great-grandchildren.
