Loy Berg

April 6, 1924 — April 13, 2005

Loy C. Berg, 81, of Rural Battle Lake, MN, formerly of Breckenridge, MN and Campbell, MN, died     April 13, 2005, at his home on Ottertail Lake. The funeal for Loy will be Monday, April 18, 2005 at 2:00 P.M. at Zion Lutheran of Amor, rural Battle Lake, Minnesota. Intern Kevin Beard will be officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, April 17, 2005 from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 P.M. at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home, Breckenridge, MN. There will also be visitation two hours prior to the funeral at the church on Monday. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Campbell, MN.

Loy is survived by: His wife: Eline Berg, rural Battle Lake, MN; His daughter: Pamela (Bruce) Bernstein, Fargo, ND; His sons: Lon (Dureen) Berg, Tucson, AZ; and Eric (Christy) Berg, Prairie Village, KS; His sister: Bernice Mellon, Smelterville, ID

He was preceded by: His parents: Carl and Grace Berg; His 2 brothers: Robert and Donovan; His 2 sisters: Audrey and Betty Lou

Loy Carleton Berg was born April 6, 1924, at Campbell, MN, to Carl and Grace (Loeks) Berg. He attended grade school at rural Campbell and graduated from Campbell High School in 1942. Loy joined the Merchant Marine and sailed in 1944. In 1945, he became a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne in Fort Benning, Georgia. After returning from the service he attended Interstate Business College in Fargo, ND. He then entered the insurance business and owned the Loy Berg-State Farm Insurance Agency in Breckenridge, MN. Along with the insurance agency he owned a farming operation in Wilkin County.

Loy was married to Eline Bjornaas in 1949 in Underwood, MN. Together they had 3 children, Pamela, Lon and Eric. They made their home in Campbell and later in Breckenridge. Loy retired in 1991 and he and Eline moved to Ottertail Lake, where he continued his love of farming with a beef cattle operation.

Loy was a member of Zion Lutheran of Amor, MN. His greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his family.
