Marian Brendel

March 13, 1930 — December 21, 2005

Marian Brendel, 75, of rural Battle Lake, died peacefully on Wednesday, December 21, 2005, surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Marian was born March 13, 1930 in Breckenridge, MN, the daughter of William and Ethel (Rieger) House. She was raised in Colfax and attended school there. On August 6, 1947, Marian was united in marriage to Elmer "Whitey" Brendel in Webster, SD. The couple lived in Breckenridge, where they raised their family. They later owned and operated Whitey's Off-Sale together until their retirement.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law; Jeanette and Norman Orbeck, Battle Lake, MN; Her daughter, Elaine Terhurne, New Richmond, WI; Five grandchildren: Shanna (Dave) Rogers, Mora, MN, Michel (Gwen) Waller, Bend, OR, Jennifer (David) McDevitt, Burnsville, MN, Shane Terhurne, Oak Grove, MN, Cody Cook, Sommerset, WI, and a special nephew, Gary Brendel, Sioux Falls, SD.

Marian was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, "Whitey" Brendel on September 20, 1985, and 2 infant children.

Marian was especially fond of her twin great-grandchildren, Arelys Marian and Keegan Paul McDevitt. She loved participating in their activities which were filled with love and laughter.

A special "Thank you" to Lakeland Hospice of Fergus Falls, and Marian's favorite nurse, Karen, for all the wonderful care and support they have given her.

Thank you to all family and friends for their thoughtfulness, prayers and support during this time.

Marian was known by her family to be a real spit-fire, yet loving and compassionate. She was the matriarch of the family and will be sadly missed by all. "Remember, Mom, Dad is waiting for you!"
