Roger Wellnitz, 65, Madison, MN, formerly of Breckenridge, Wheaton, and Herman, MN passed away at the Madison Hospital on Tuesday, June 19, 2007.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, June 23, 2007 at 11:00 AM at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home, Breckenridge, MN with Pastor Mark Manning officiating. Visitation will be on Friday, June 22, 2007 from 4 PM to 7 PM with a Prayer Service at 7 PM at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home, Breckenridge, MN. Interment will be at the Milbank City Cemetery, Milbank, SD.
Roger is survived by, his son, Brian (Becky) Wellnitz, Madison, MN; his grandson, Broderic Wellnitz, Madison, MN; his brothers, Arnold Wellnitz, Siren, WI, Melvin (Marilyn) Wellnitz, Staples, MN, Russell Wellnitz, Rockford, MN; jis sister-in-law, Virginia (Wellnitz) Ringwelski, Little Falls, MN; his special aunts, Katie Washenberger, St. Paul, MN; Josephine Larson, Little Falls, MN; his special friends, Alfred and Viola Krause, Karen Gagnier, Suzie Allen, Shannon Gessner, Rhonda Belcourt.
He was preceded in death by, his parents, Reinhold and Ella Wellnitz; his daughter, Lori Wellnitz; his brother, Arvin and Merton Wellnitz; his sister, Ardell Dahl; his brother-in-law, Richard Dahl.
Roger was born on June 7, 1942 to Reinhold and Ella (Larson) Wellnitz in Bowlus, MN. He grew up and attended country school near Herman, MN and graduated from Herman High School on June 1, 1960. He served in the US Navy for a short period and was honorably discharged. He then returned to the family farm and helped his parents and then took over the operation until 1987. He then worked various jobs around the area including working for Green Farms near Fairmount, ND and driving truck for Art Fridgen. In 1993, Roger began working for Alfred Krause Sand and Gravel where he worked until he retired on August 26, 2005.
Roger was united in marriage to Theresa Petermann on September 24, 1977 and to this marriage was born Brian on August 7, 1978 and Lori on May 28, 1981. He was a member of American Legion Post 53 of Breckenridge. He enjoyed going to family functions to visit with relatives and going to school reunions. He also liked to visit the Arial Bridge in Duluth, MN and watch the ships go by. He moved to Madison, MN to be near his son and daughter-in-law and especially his new little grandson, Broderic, who was his pride and joy.
