Russell E. Coppin, 82, of Breckenridge, MN, formerly of Wahpeton and Hankinson, ND died November 28, 2004 at St. Francis Medical Center, Breckenridge, MN. His funeral will be held on Thursday, December 2, 2004 at 10:30 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Wahpeton, ND, with Pastor Alan R. Werth officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 1, 2004, from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM with a 6:00 PM Prayer Service at Willow Creek Chapel, 920 3rd Avenue N. Wahpeton, ND (formerly Joseph Vertin and Sons Funeral Home of Wahpeton, ND). There will also be visitation one hour prior to the funeral at the church on Thursday morning. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Wahpeton, ND.

Russell is survived by: His two sons: Myron and Dean, both of Wahpeton, ND; His two daughters: Candy Coppin of Golden, CO; and Tammy (Todd) Bladow, Shakopee, MN; His two brothers: Allen, of Hankinson, ND; and Jack of Harvey, ND; His sister-in-law: La Verne Jerke of Maple Grove, MN; His 7 grandchildren: Myron Coppin II, Jeremy Coppin, Lance Coppin, Miranda Coppin, Tanner Coppin, Tyler Bladow and Nicole Bladow; His 6 great-grandchildren

He was preceded in death by His wife: Joy Coppin; His parents: Fred and Lydia Coppin; His brother: Bill Coppin

His sister: Marge Hedin



Russell Edward Coppin was born April 12, 1922 in Hankinson, ND, the son of Fred and Lydia (Moore) Coppin. He grew up and attended school in Hankinson, graduating with the class of 1942. Following graduation he entered the U. S. Army and fought in Central Europe during WWII. He was discharged September 20, 1945. Russell was united in marriage to Joy Agnes Hoefs at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hankinson on April 13, 1947. The couple lived in Hankinson, where they owned and operated the Avon Grill for five years, then moved to Lidgerwood, ND where they owned and operated the Wiley Theatre for fifteen years. In 1966, the family moved to Wahpeton and Russell began working for Robanks Manufacturing, where he was employed until his retirement in 1988. The couple continued living in Wahpeton and were active members of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wahpeton. Joy preceded him in death on October 8, 2002.

Russell was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, the VFW and American Legion in Wahpeton. He enjoyed fishing, spending time at Jewett Lake, gardening, playing cards with "the boys," making and selling "Coppin" knives, and spending time with family and friends.
