History: Sophie was born February 22, 1917 in Nordick Township near Kent, MN, the daughter of August and Marie (Drewlow) Stuehrenberg. She grew up on the farm and attended District #65 school through the 8th grade. She then worked on the farm and did housekeeping for various families in the area. On March 27, 1940 Sophie was united in marriage to Lawrence "Jake" Affield at Christ Lutheran Church at rural Wolverton, MN. They made their home and farmed in Nordick Township, where they raised their 5 children. Lawrence preceded her in death on May 28, 1986. Sophie continued living on the farm until she moved to the York Manor in Breckenridge, MN in November, 1998. Until recently, she spent summers at the farm, cooking for the boys and maintaining the farmplace.
Sophie enjoyed crocheting, quilting, playing cards, crafts and dancing, and had a special talent for hairdressing. She was very proud of her family and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with them. Sophie was a gracious host, who loved entertaining. She will be remembered for her positive attitude and uplifting personality.
