Victor Sheets, 87, Breckenridge, MN, died September 19, 2006 at St. Francis Healthcare, Campus, Breckenridge.

Victor was born on May 14, 1919 in Breckenridge, MN, the son of Levi and Leitha (Ward) Sheets. He attended school in Breckenridge and worked at Three Star Oil Company. On April 22, 1941 Victor enlisted in the U. S. Army and was stationed at Camp Clayburn, Louisiana with the 34th Infantry Division. Victor was trained as a small arms mechanic and worked in that field in the U. S. prior to WWII. He then served in Ireland and Liverpool, England before boarding a ship heading to the invasion of North Africa. During his two years of serving outside the U. S. he served under General George S. Patton. He returned to Boston in 1943, where he continued to serve until his discharge on August 18, 1945. Vic worked for the Soil and Water Conservation District in Wilkin County after returning from the Army.

On October 14, 1947, Victor was married to Ann Langenwalter at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Breckenridge. They always made their home in Breckenridge. Shortly after their marriage Vic began working for the U.S. Postal Service, where he was a city mail carrier until his retirement in 1978.

Victor was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Knights of Colunbus, America Legion Post #53, V.F. W. #2766, and Military Order of the Cootie Pup Tent #3.He also served with the Breckenridge/Wilkin County Honor Guard at funerals for over 35 years.

Ann preceded Vic in death on February 2, 2001 and he continued to live in Breckneridge. When his health failed he became a resident of St. Francis Nursing Home. Victor enjoyed collecting stamps and coins, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Victor is survived by:      His 2 daughters and sons-in-law: Barb and Brian Olsen and Denise and Dan Steffens, all of Wahpeton, ND; His 4 grandchildren: Adam and Amy Olsen and Darrin and Darcy Steffens; Several nieces and nephews

He was preceded in death by His parents: Levi and Leitha Sheets; His wife: Ann; His son: John; His brother: Harvey; His sister: Vera Mae Hoiriis

Visitation: Thursday, September 21, 2006, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 6:30 PM and Prayer Service at 7:00 PM at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home, Breckenridge, MN. There will also be visitation on Friday morning at 8:30 AM until the time of the funeral at the funeral home.

Funeral: Friday, September 22, 2006 at 10:30 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Breckenridge, MN

Clergy: Fr. Dale Lagodinski

Interment: St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Breckenridge, MN, with military rites by the Wilkin County Honor Guard
