Winifred "Winnie" Jones, 101, of Wyndmere, ND passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2004 under the care of Hospice and surrounded by her children. The funeral service will be Saturday, February 12, 2004 at 11:00 AM at the United Methodist Church in Wyndmere with Pastor Jack Erickson officiating. Burial will be at Elk Creek Cemetery of rural Wyndmere. Visitation will be on Friday, February 11, 2004 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home of Breckenridge, MN. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.



Winnie is survived by her daughter and two sons: Marlys Buskohl, Eugene (Marlene) Jones, and Maurice Jones all of Wyndmere; 14 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; a son-in-law, John Marien of South St. Paul, MN; and a sister, Blanche Nicklay of Barnesville, MN.



Winnie is preceded by her parents, John and Anna Holecek; her husband, Aldron "Hob" Jones; her son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Joan Jones; Her daughter, Lorraine Marien; her great-granddaughter, Brandy Jo Bloms; and her two sisters, Alice Holecek and Leona Terfehr.



Winifred "Winnie" Jones was born on July 11, 1903 to John and Anna (Stepon) Holecek in Brushvale, MN. She grew up and attended school in Brushvale, MN. She attended Normal School, now Moorhead State University to obtain a teaching degree. She began teaching at the age of 17 years and taught in rural schools in the Barnesville and Morris, MN areas. She also taught in rural Wyndmere and Mantador, ND schools.



On October 29, 1930 she was united in marriage to Aldron "Hob" Ellis Jones in Wyndmere, ND. After their marriage they lived in various places. In 1940 they settled near Wyndmere and in 1950 they moved into Wyndmere. Aldron died on June 11, 1992.



Winnie was a member of the United Methodist Church of Wyndmere, Rebekah Lodge - Memorial Aid, Wyndmere Senior Citizens, and the United Methodist Women of Wyndmere. Winnie was also known as the "Rose Lady". The community enjoyed driving by her home admiring her flowers especially her "Red Roses". Winnie received "Yard of the Week" several times. Winnie's hobbies included tatting, crocheting, crafts of all kinds, sewing, and watching the Twins and Vikings. She was able to enjoy the Super Bowl on Sunday evening. Winnie played the organ in her church until she was 90 years old. She said she was quitting to let the younger people have a chance. She was also able to play in church on her 100th birthday. Winnie's biggest joy in life was her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
