Alice Lydia Lorena Anderson, 92, formerly of Wolverton, MN, passed away on Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at Eventide Assisted Living in Moorhead, MN. The visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, with a prayer service at 7:00, on Friday, March 24, at Joseph Vertin and Sons Funeral Home in Breckenridge, MN. The visitation will continue at the funeral home, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, on Saturday, March 25, followed by the funeral at 11:00. Pastor Craig Palach will be officiating. The interment will be at Christ Lutheran Cemetery near Wolverton.
Alice Buth was born December 23, 1924, in Mitchell Township near Kent, MN, to William and Emma (Ruediger) Buth. She attended Lone Star Country School in Mitchell Township. On December 5, 1953, Alice was united in marriage to Melvin Anderson at Christ Lutheran Church in Wolverton. They were blessed with five children and a full, abundant life on the farm. She was never one to shy away from hard labor and was by Melvin's side in most aspects of the farm. Her roots run deep in Christ Lutheran Church and during her 77 year membership, she gladly served in many capacities including president and treasurer of the Ladies Aide. Alice was a 4-H leader for the M & M Stars and belonged to the Merry Mixers Homemakers Club. Known for her hospitality, she welcomed family and friends with open arms.
Alice maintained beautiful flower and vegetable gardens and also kept her hands busy with quilting, crocheting and other various crafts. She loved the challenge of Rummikub, Whist and jig-saw puzzles. She had many fond memories of spending summers with the family at Deer Lake, a tradition they started in 1975. Alice's strong faith, humility, and incredible work ethic are her legacy. Her devotion to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren are a reflection of her love and commitment to them.
Alice will be missed by her five children, Wes (Karen) Anderson of Underwood, MN, Paulette (Jack) Roberts of Fargo, ND, Brian (Loni) Anderson of Hawley, MN, Charlet Anderson of Fargo, ND, and Shellee (Richard) Hatlevoll of Fargo, ND; her seven grandchildren, Colin (Mandee) Anderson, Gabrielle, Weston, and Shantae Anderson, Steven (Melissa) Anderson, Aaron (Kara Smith) and Casey Hatlevoll; her three great-grandchildren, Chace and Carly Anderson, and Spencer Anderson; and her many nieces and nephews.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, William and Emma; her husband, Melvin; her twin sons who died in infancy; her brothers, Louis, Ernest, Victor, and Arnold Buth; and her sister, Beatrice Sprenger.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Hospice of the Red River Valley or Eventide Foundation-Chaplaincy Fund.
