Alice Erickson

November 24, 1921 — July 24, 2010

Alice Erickson , 88 of Alexandria, MN- formerly of Breckenridge, MN died on July 24, 2010 at Diamond Willow Assisted Living Center. The celebration of her life will be at Breckenridge Lutheran Church, Thursday, July 29 at 11:00 am . with Pastor Mark Manning and Pastor Dane Compton officiating the service. Visitation is Wednesday July 28 from 5 to 7 pm with a prayer service at 7:00 at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home in Breckenridge. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Breckenridge.    Pallbearers are Randy Beeler, Russel Wheeler, Gordon Thorson, Duane Baumgartner, Dick Job, Jim Erickson.


Minnie (Alice as she was known to her friends) Oestreich was born to Milton and Alice (Ellenson) Oestreich on November 24, 1921 in Walcott, ND. She attended the Walcott Schools and graduated in 1939. She was united in marriage on November 8, 1939 to Percy Erickson in Moorhead, MN. Together they made their home and raised their children in Breckenridge. Alice worked at the Aber Restaurant, Uncle Jim’s, and others in the Breckenridge area for many years. Percy preceded Alice on July 28, 1986. Alice and her companion, Bill Hook, helped out widows in the area cutting their grass, cleaning windows and other home maintenance tasks. Alice also volunteered for many years at the Eagles Club in Wahpeton. When she wasn’t busy helping and serving others, Alice enjoyed embroidery, reading and playing her piano. She also loved the fellowship of quilting with the ladies in her church (Breckenridge Lutheran). She considered her time with her family the most precious of all.


When her health began to fail in 2007, Alice moved to the Windmill Ponds Assisted Living in Alexandria, MN. She later moved to Diamond Willow Advanced Care Assisted Living also in Alexandria where she remained until her passing.


Alice is survived by her children Peggy Hedtke of Plymouth, MN;    Judy (Duane) Baumgartner of Duluth, MN;   Jim (Judy) Erickson of St. Joseph, MO; Vickie (Gordon) Thorson of Overland Park, KS; Kathy (Randy) Beeler of Alexandria, MN; Wendy (Russ) Wheeler of Pardeeville, WI; 17 Grandchildren; 24 Great-grandchildren and 1 Great-great granddaughter; her brother Milton (Janice) Oestreich of Fargo, ND.


Alice is preceded by her husband Percy Erickson; her sons Mark and Bob; her special friend William ‘Bill’ Hook; her sisters Helen Anderson, Rosemary Jones and Melva Nelson; 4 Grandchildren, Robert Job, Shayla Erickson, Joseph Baumgartner, Kyle McKibben and her parents, Milton and Alice Oestreich.
