Allen Morris Torgeson was born July 26, 1912 in Dunseith, ND, the son of Oscar and Inga (Rudd) Torgeson. When he was a young child he moved with his family to Breckenridge, MN, where he grew up and attended school. In November, 1942, Bud entered the U. S. Navy and served in WWII on the USS Wyoming and USS Scott as the ships' cook and baker. He was discharged on March 10, 1945 and returned to Breckenridge. Bud then purchased and operated "Bud's CafAC." in Wahpeton, ND and made his home in the apartment upstairs.
Allen was married to Veronica Even from Forman, ND on November 7, 1946 at St. John's Catholic Church in Wahpeton, with a wedding reception held at the Wahpeton Hotel. The two were partners in Bud's CafAC., which was well known for its delicious 10 cent caramel rolls and coffee. It was also a very popular place for hamburgers and fries with the NDSCS Students. Bud and Veronica owned and operated the establishment until they retired and moved to Walker Lake near Otter Tail, MN.
During their retirement years at the lake, Bud enjoyed gardening, building bird houses and fishing.
Bud and Veronica returned to live in Breckenridge in 1994, and lived there until 2000, when they made their home at St. Catherine's Living Center. Veronica preceded him in death on March 25, 2001. Bud has since resided at St. Catherine's.
Bud was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Breckenridge, and the VFW Club in Wahpeton, ND, where he had also served as Post Commander.
