Barbara Jean Nelson, 57 of Breckenridge, MN died April 10, 2012 under the care of Riveredge Hospice with her family at her side. The visitation is at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home on Friday April 13, from 4:00 to 7:00pm with a prayer service a 7. The funeral is at Breckenridge Lutheran Church on Saturday April 14 at 1:00 pm with Pastor Mark Manning officiating. Luncheon will follow the funeral service then the interment will take place at Clinton City Cemetery, Clinton, MN.
Barb was born on July 8, 1954 in Ortonville, MN to Clarence and Verla (Witte) Thomas. She grew up and attended school in Ortonville, graduating from high School in 1972. Barb was united in marriage to Perry Nelson on October 21, 1972. They resided in Clinton, MN until 1975 then relocated to Breckenridge, MN where they made their home and raised their three children. Barb went to work at St. Francis Hospital as a receptionist then decided her calling in life was to be a nurse. She attended NDSSS in 1982-1983 and graduated as a LPN. She had a long and gratifying career as a nurse at St. Catherine's Living Center where she remained employed for twenty eight years. Perry preceded Barb in 2008.
The summers for Barb were a time for relaxing at the lake and taking care of her flowers. She made many memories with family and friends, but none as precious as the time spent with her grandchildren. She treasured the laughter filled lunches and traveling together with her friends. Barb was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary in Wahpeton, ND and Breckenridge Lutheran Church.
Barb is survived by her children Bryan (Tammy Firchau) Nelson of Breckenridge, MN and their children Kendra and Riley; Cullen (Michelle) Nelson of Wahpeton, ND and their daughters Olivia and Codi; and Sara Blaufuss of Breckenridge, MN and her children Landon, Erin and Kendall; her sister Judie (Ed) Schaffer of Ortonville, MN; her mother-in-law Betty Nelson of Clinton, MN and her sister-in-law Cindy (Dan) Follmer of Maplewood, MN.
Barb is preceded in death by her husband Perry Nelson(2008); her parents Clarence and Verla Thomas; her father-in-law Ted Nelson; brother-in-law Gary Nelson; sister-in-law RaNae Nelson.
In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to Riveredge Hospice.
