Benjamin Differding, Sr

Benjamin Anthony Differding, SR, 82 of Breckenridge, MN died on Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at St. Francis Nursing Home, Breckenridge. The visitation will be Thursday, September 27 at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home, Breckenridge, from 5:00 to 8:00PM with a prayer service at 7. The funeral will be at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Breckenridge, on Friday, September 28 at 10:30AM with Father Stan Wieser officiating. A private family interment will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery, Breckenridge.
Benjamin was born in Hankinson, ND, on October 12, 1929, one of fourteen children to Peter and Sophia (Grobe) Differding. He grew up and attended school at St. Francis Academy, in Hankinson. He farmed with his dad until marrying the love of his life, Bernice Medenwald. They married on March 17, 1949 at St. Phillip's Catholic Church in Hankinson, ND. They moved to rural Lidgerwood, ND and farmed for ten years. Upon moving to a farm near Breckenridge, Benjamin began a twenty year career at Schweitzer's Flax Straw Plant. When the plant shut down, he drove school bus for Wahpeton for twenty years until he retired in 2007. Benjamin and Bernice lived on the family farm until moving into Breckenridge in 2008. He was a lifetime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Many memories were made during the family get-togethers which were among his favorite things to do. He also enjoyed the years he spent in a bowling league and the solitude of fishing.
Benjamin is survived by his wife of 63 years, Bernice; 11 children, Faye (Gene) Lonski of Fullerton, ND, Beth Miranowski, Benjamin, JR (Joyce) Differding, Edward Differding, Suzann (Duane) Wolter, Cindy (Steve) Lommel, Terre Choiniere, Charlotte (Troy) Gutzmer all of Breckenridge, MN, Annette (Gary) McCoy of Minot, ND, Todd (Sue) Differding of Breckenridge, MN and Becci (Darren) Thom of Wahpeton, ND; 28 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; his brothers Adolph (Eunice)Differding of Forest Lake, MN, and Jerome (Vickie) Differding of Fargo, ND; his sisters Patricia Prchal of Wahpeton, ND and Delores Gerezek of Hankinson, ND.
Benjamin is preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Sophia; a daughter, Kathleen Kay; a grandchild, Jill Miranowski; his brothers Francis, Sylvester, Charles, and Peter, JR.; his sisters, Helen Ostby, Jean Ostby, Mary Evenson, Sophia Differding, and Florence Weiss.
