Betty was born at St. Paul, MN, on April 6, 1927, the only child of Benjamin and Hannah (Young) Fortune. She graduated from Wheaton High School in 1944. On December 28, 1946, Betty was united in marriage to James Loren Putnam, at the Presbyterian Church in Wheaton, MN. They made their home in Tintah, where they were blessed with three children. It was her excellent cooking and baking that drew family and friends together at their home. She loved to can and freeze the foods from their garden. Quilting, oil painting, reading, and music filled up many hours of her life. Betty and Jim were fortunate to have spent 27 winters as snowbirds in Mesa, AZ. She was a member of Eastern Star, and an active member of Tintah Congregational Church in their choir and ladies aide. Betty was a member of the Tintah School Board and President of the board for many years.
Betty is survived by her children, Nancy (Larry) Krenz of Wheaton, MN, Linda Albert of Tintah, and James Warren (Jeanne) Putnam of Tintah; 14 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren; her brother-in-law, Ray Husen of Sartell, MN. She is preceded in death by her husband, James (12-31-2014); her parents, Benjamin and Hannah Fortune; her grandson-in-law, Lance Lyngaas; 2 sisters-in-law, Doris Davison and Joyce Husen; her in-laws, Charles and Ethel Putnam and Myrtle Putnam.
Betty has been entrusted to Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home in Breckenridge.
