Carl Robert Zarling Jr.

Carl Robert Zarling Jr., 91, passed away January 4, 2026. He was born in Breckenridge, MN, on September 23, 1934, to Effie (Manley) and Carl Robert Zarling Sr. He grew up in Breckenridge and graduated from high school in 1954. He enlisted in the United States Army in July of 1954. He took his training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He was stationed in Italy, Germany, and did 2 tours in Vietnam. He also served stateside in several different places. He retired from the military in February 1976. After retiring, he worked for several years at American Crystal Sugar in Wahpeton, ND. He enjoyed fishing, going to the lake and the casino, and spending time with his friends and family.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents Effie and Carl; brothers Keith and Vernon; niece Carole; and great-nephew Zach Fliestra Sr.

He is survived by his niece Barbara Edner (Moorhead, MN), Sharon Knowlton (Colorado Springs, CO), great-nephew Chuck Edner (Argusville, ND), great-nieces Janelle Edner-Anderson (Moorhead, MN) and Allison (Brett) Schermer (Colorado Springs, CO); great-great-nieces and nephew: Brendan (Taylor) Edner, Josephine Edner-Reecy (Fargo, ND), Harley, Amara, and Hayden Anderson (Moorhead, MN), Aria, Ellie and Leina Schermer (Colorado Springs, CO), Zach Fliestra Jr. (Duluth, MN); and great-great-great-nieces Ravyn and Ryleigh Edner (Fargo, ND).
