Carol Grotjohn, 99, of Breckenridge, MN, passed away peacefully in her home with her loving family by her side on Tuesday, December 23rd, 2025. Born on September 18, 1926, Carol lived a long, full life marked by resilience, love for travel, enjoying the simple joys of life and a love for the people and places that shaped her.
Carol was married to Robert Keith Grotjohn on December 25, 1950, her devoted husband, who preceded her in death in 2000. Their life together was one of partnership, family and quiet strength.
Carol was known for her quick wit, smile and the gentle strength and steadiness she carried through every season of her life.
Throughout her working years, Carol contributed her talents to several local employers including Montgomery Ward, the ASCS office, MinnDak, and 3M, before eventually retiring. She approached every role with dedication and a strong work ethic that reflected her character.
She is survived by her three children: Jean (Ray Schroeder) and their four children Carolee (Ryan Miller) and daughter Ellington, and her son Lawson and their son Hudson, Amber (Jeremy) Mertes and their sons Alexander and Jackson, Nicholas (Brandy) Schroeder and their daughter Tatum and son Raylan, Cameron (Joshua) Althoff and their daughter Oaklee and son James. She is also survived by her son Loren and three his children, Leah (Paul) Ladd and their daughter Colette, Ann Grotjohn, and Callie (Mayson) Croaker and their daughters Hazel and Amelia and is survived by her daughter JoAnn Erickson and her son Daniel (Ashley) and their children Haley, Elizabeth and Hunter.
Each generation brought her immense pride and joy, and the legacy of Robert and Carol lives on in the family she nurtured and inspired.
Her nearly century-long life was a testament to grace, perseverance, and the beauty of a life well lived. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A service in her honor will be held at Breckenridge United Methodist Church, Breckenridge, MN, Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at 12 PM with visitation one hour prior. Pastor Shandon Klein will officiate.
