Cecil Lankow

Cecil Marvin Lankow, 82 of Breckenridge, MN passed away at St. Francis Nursing Home on December 10, 2010. The visitation is Tuesday December 14 from 5 to 7:00 pm with a prayer service at 7 at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home in Breckenridge, MN and one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. The funeral is Wednesday December 15 at 2:00 pm at the United Methodist Church in Breckenridge. Officiating is Pastor Gary Gottfried. Interment is at Oak Grove Cemetery in Fergus Falls, MN. Pallbearers are Scott Lankow, Duane Hiedeman, Noel Martinson, Dennis Martinson, Norman Hiedeman, and Glen Lankow.
Cecil was born on January 29, 1928 to Henry and Jessie (Marten) Lankow in Fergus Falls, MN. He grew up in that area attending country school, District Number 62. After graduating from Campbell High School in 1946, Cecil remained on the family farm to help his mother. He entered the US Army in 1951. He was discharged from the Army in 1953 and served in the Signal Corps. He then returned to the family farm to continue a vocation he loved. In 1963, Cecil purchased the farm following his mother's death. In 2000, he retired from farming but continued to live on the home place where he enjoyed his hobbies. Cecil loved music. He was an accomplished organist and took pleasure in playing at the United Methodist Church in Foxhome for many years. He also enjoyed fishing, archeological trips, flying airplanes, and spent countless hours tinkering in his shop.
Cecil is survived by his siblings, Mae Hiedeman of Breckenridge, MN; Beatrice Kusch of Marion, IA; Francis (Virginia) Lankow of Underwood, MN; Marilyn (Alwyn) Martinson of Vergas, MN; Artis (Gordon) Martinson of Breckenridge, MN; Phyllis (Herbert) Hiedeman of Wahpeton, ND; and Henry Lankow of Cedar Rapids, IA.
Cecil is preceded by his parents Henry and Jessie (Marten) Lankow; his brother Raymond Lankow; and his brothers-in-law Harold Hiedeman and Edward Kusch.
In lieu of flowers, contributions are preferred to Riveredge Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
