Claudia Williams was born in Clay Center, Kansas, on May 14, 1953, the youngest child born to James Buford, SR. and Donnice (Brosie) Williams. She graduated from Clay Center Community High School in 1971. Following high school she found employment in Manhattan, Kansas, which is where she met the love of her life, Michael Matz, a soldier in the US Army. They were married on September 8, 1973 in Clay Center, Kansas. The first two years of their married life, Claudia and Michael lived in Fargo. The couple established their roots in Breckenridge, moving there in 1975. They were blessed with two wonderful children. Claudia began a daycare and took care of children in her home for several years. She spent most of her career outside of the home in retail; working at Snyder Drug, Breckenridge Drug, and Loopy's Dollar Store.
Claudia's can-do attitude and sparkling personality made it difficult for people to know just how sick she was. She received her first kidney transplant nineteen years ago in August. Even though she battled with many side-effects of the transplant medications, she never let on that she was anything but wonderful. Claudia was a meticulous quilter, and was happy to pass her craft on to her daughter and loved to be with her fellow quilters. She also enjoyed playing the piano for an audience of one and looked forward to the fellowship with her friends in birthday and craft clubs.
On October 11, 2016, just sixteen days after her second kidney transplant, Claudia went home to be with her Lord and entered eternal life in the healing arms of her Savior.
Claudia will be missed by her husband, Michael, of Breckenridge; her son, Nicholas of Breckenridge; her daughter, Nicolette (Gregory) Neutz of Brooklyn Park, MN, and their children, Caleb and Colyn; her sister, Pamela (Neal) Ogburn of Greely, CO, and her brother, Jim (Elena) Williams of Aurora, CO; her mother-in-law, Mildred Matz of Breckenridge; Michael's four brothers and their wives; and numerous nieces and nephews. Claudia is preceded in death by her parents, James and Donnice.
