Darrell Sheldon Kath

Darrell Sheldon Kath, age 62, of Campbell, MN, died on September 1, 2025, at his home, under hospice care with his wife holding his hand. The memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, September 6, 2025, with a visitation beginning at 12 p.m., at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Campbell, MN. Reverend Craig Palach will be officiating the service. Burial will be held at Riverside Cemetery, Campbell, MN. Arrangements have been entrusted to Joseph Vertin and Sons Funeral Home, Breckenridge, MN.

Darrell was born on June 30, 1963, in Breckenridge, MN, to Arlo and Shirley (Steeves) Kath. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Campbell, MN.

He graduated from Campbell-Tintah High School in 1981, and from Alexandria Vocational Technical College in 1983, where he studied machine tool and die.

Darrell married his high-school sweetheart, Tanya Homme, June 5, 1982, and together they raised their two boys, Eric and Michael.

After college, Darrell worked as a machinist in Minneapolis and later, for Aaseby Industrial Machining in Wahpeton. But the outdoors was calling, and Darrell found his ‘forever’ job working at the Etten Farm near Foxhome.

The hobbies that Darrell enjoyed as a kid carried on throughout his life. His passion for snowmobiling was one he shared with his boys. Darrell loved to pheasant hunt. He often bragged that his hunting buddies all wanted to walk next to him in the field as his beloved chocolate lab, Windsor, was the best hunting dog out there!

Much family time was spent on the water-fishing, boating, and pulling the kids (and later the grandkids) around the lake. The bigger the waves, the louder the screams, the better the day. Darrell also loved the quiet solitude of trolling for a walleye or just sitting in the shade of maple tree outside the cabin.

Darrell’s proud meter burst with the births of his grandchildren. He cherished time that was spent with Dylan, Maggi, and Connor.

Darrell is survived by his wife, Tanya; son, Michael Kath, Breckenridge, MN; granddaughters, Dylan Kath and Maggi Kath, Fergus Falls, MN, grandson, Connor Petermann, Breckenridge, MN; mother, Shirley Kath, Campbell, MN; sisters, Cheryl (Robert) Petermann, Valley Center, CA; Debbie (Grant) Barth, Campbell, MN, Diane Kath, Escondido, CA, Brenda (Darin) Prochnow, Great Bend, ND, and Tami (Dennis) Braun, Rosholt, SD; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his son, Eric Kath; father, Arlo Kath; mother and father-in-law, Tommy and Judy Homme.
