Donald Theodore Wetenkamp, 88, Tintah, MN died at St. Catherine's Living Center in Wahpeton, ND on Sunday December 11, 2011. Visitation is Friday, December 16, 2011 from 5-7 with a prayer service at 7 pm at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home, Breckenridge, MN. The funeral is Saturday, December 17, 2011 at 2:00 pm at the Seventh Day Adventist Church Wahpeton, ND with Pastor Dragos Profir officiating. The interment is at Riverside Cemetery, Breckenridge, MN.
Donald was born on July 22, 1923 to Theodore and Bertha (Rogahn) Wetenkamp in Zenith, ND. He grew up attended schools in Zenith until age 16 when he moved with his family to a farm near Nashua, MN. Don graduated from Campbell High School. On August 10, 1947, Don was united in marriage to Clara Heitzmann in McClusky, ND. He attended Union College in Lincoln, NE. After he completed his education, they moved back to the area and settled on a farm near Tintah, MN where they made their home and raised their two daughters. Don obtained his pilot's license in 1951 and contracted as an independent crop duster from 1955 to 1996. One of the highlights of his flying career was taking three mission trips to Guyana, South America between 1960 and 1963. In June of 2009, Don moved to Twin Town Villa.
Don was active in the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Wahpeton where he served as an Elder and a board member. He also served on the Champion Township board for 25 years and was a member of the Wilkin County Sheriff's Posse. Don had a passion for flying and would ascend to the skies as often as he could. He enjoyed playing the violin and singing around the piano with friends and family. He had an adventurous spirit and a giving heart and enjoyed the fellowship of being with people. Don will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Donald is survived by his wife Clara of Tintah, MN; his daughters Viola (Claude) Redick of Veneta, OR and Videll (Norm) Ahrens of Tintah, MN; two grandchildren Wayne (Jamie) Ahrens of Overland Park, KS and Cassandra Ahrens of St. Cloud, MN; one great-grandchild Lucas Ahrens; his sister Alice Welharticky of Wahpeton, ND and 2 nephews Gary and Joe Welharticky.
Donald is preceded in death by his parents Theodore and Bertha Wetenkamp. Funeral arrangements are being entrusted to Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home, Breckenridge, MN
