Doris A. Wichael, 91 of Breckenridge, MN died on July 23, 2013 at St. Francis Nursing Home, Breckenridge, MN. The funeral will be 3:30PM, Friday July26 at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home in Breckenridge, MN with a visitation from 2:30 to 3:30PM prior to the funeral. Pastor Peter Erickson will be officiating. The interment is at Riverside Cemetery in Campbell, MN.
Doris was born November 17, 1921 to Jacob and Jennie (Hestad) Hesteness in Wenabago County, Iowa. At age 5, she moved with her family to Pettibone, ND where she attended Wieser Township School through 8th grade, then graduated from Pettibone High School in 1939. She worked many jobs for neighbors as she was growing up such as taking care of children, cooking for farm hands, canning, and all household chores. She was united in marriage to Albert H. Wichael on January 20, 1944. To this union six girls and one boy were born. They lived in Pettibone, ND until 1950 at which time, they moved to Breckenridge. She worked as a Nurse's Aide at St. Francis Home for 40 years. In 1959, Doris and her family moved to Campbell, MN. Albert preceded her in death in 2002. She remained in Campbell until September 5, 2008 and then entered St. Francis Nursing Home in August 2009.
Doris was a master of many homemaking skills including gardening, canning and sewing. She enjoyed spending time with her family especially delighted in her grandchildren. She was an active member of Faith Community Church in Campbell where she enjoyed the fellowship and lending support to the Ladies Aide. She was a 4-H Leader, member of the Red Hats Club, Garden Club, and president of the Senior Citizens for many years. She also proudly served as an election judge.
Doris is survived by her children Flo Neubauer of Campbell, MN, Dee (Bob) Cramer of Wahpeton, ND, Judy Wright of Milaca, MN; Evelyn (Butch) Link of Underwood, MN, and James (Maureen) Wichael of Wahpeton, ND; her 13 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; 6 step-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; her son-in-law Roger Tischer of Great Bend, ND; her brother Kenneth Hesteness of Hawley, MN; her sister Emmy Lou Melhoff of Aberdeen, WA; her sister-in-law Patricia Hesteness of Moorhead, MN.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents Jennie and Jacob; her husband Albert; 2 daughters Patricia Korinek and Nancy Tischer; her sons-in-law Kenny Korinek and Curtis Neubauer; her grandson Kyle Korinek; her great-grandson Cody Link; her brothers Donald Hesteness and Gerald Hestness.
