Edith Thimjon

July 12, 1920 — June 16, 2010

Edith Thimjon, after receiving care at Hospice House in Omaha, NE, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, June 16, 2010. A Celebration of Life service for Edith will be on Monday, June 28 th at 10:30AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Wahpeton.

Edith Effie Thimjon was born July 12, 1920 in rural Wahpeton, North Dakota.  Her parents were Henry and Nancy (Horseman) Leshovsky.  Edith was the 7 th of eight children.  She married Walter Thimjon on September 21, 1940 at the Missouri Synod Church in Red Wing, Minnesota.  Walter and Edith lived in the Wahpeton area for a few years then bought a farm and moved south of Foxhome in the fall of 1949.  Walter and Edith lived and raised their family on the Foxhome farm and retired to Breckenridge in the fall of 1986.

Edith was active throughout her life, loving to entertain family and friends, flower gardening, horse back riding, and reading- sometimes reading two or three books in a day.  Walter and Edith enjoyed camping, square dancing and wintering together in the south Texas area.  In the fall of 1972 Edith was diagnosed with breast cancer and was given a grim survival prognosis. Edith struggled with reoccurring cancer for the remaining years of her life and she always claimed to be a walking miracle. Through her cancer experience, Edith and Walt both entered into a personal relationship with Christ and understood the eternal security they are promised in their personal walk with Him. They are now together again. Her family and many friends miss Edith, and are thankful for her life and the impact she had on them.

Edith is survived by her four children, Darrel (Joyce) Thimjon of St. Joseph, Missouri; Donald (Vicki) Thimjon of Omaha, Nebraska; Mavis (Dennis) Goodin of Dayton, Wyoming; and Lonny (Sherie) of Hopkins, Minnesota;   8 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Edith is preceded by her husband, Walter (May of 1990); great-granddaughter, Shelby Young.
