Eldora Mae Schreiber

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Breckenridge, Minnesota. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Breckenridge, Minnesota.

Eldora Mae Schreiber was born December 7, 1927, the daughter of Olaf and Clara (Rude) Eckley. She attended rural grade school in Nanson, North Dakota, and graduated from high school in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, in 1946. Following graduation, she worked at Fergus Falls City Hall for two years. Eldora married Robert “Bob” Schreiber on November 29, 1948. Together, they made their home on the family farm in Foxhome Township, where they lived for 54 years and raised their four children. The farm was a busy and welcoming place, often filled not only with their own children, but with nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Eldora was an accomplished seamstress. She served as a 4-H sewing leader and continued sewing throughout her life. Her care for the people she loved was practical and constant – Eldora never missed a birthday – and it always included cake.

Summers brought time at Jewett Lake, where Eldora loved fishing and playing cards with her family, neighbors, and friends. She passed both pursuits on to her grandchildren, teaching them not only how to fish and play a good hand of cards, but also the pleasure of simply spending time together. During their years on the farm, Eldora and Bob began spending their winters in Mesa, Arizona, a tradition they continued for many years. There, Eldora became an avid golfer and enjoyed an active social life with the many friends they made. As a talented golfer, she recorded an impressive three holes-in-one during her lifetime. In 2002, after 54 years on the farm, Eldora and Bob moved to Fergus Falls, remaining close to the farm, family, and community that had long been home. Eldora continued to enjoy hosting family and friends, playing cards, and the friendships that had always been an important part of her life.

Eldora was an active member of Foxhome Catholic Church, where she served for many years as chairman of the ladies’ organization. She was also a member of Homemakers and Church Circle and treasured the friendships she formed through her church and community. Above all, Eldora was a devoted mother and grandmother. She believed in rules, hard work, and doing things properly, but beneath it all was an extraordinary capacity for caring for her family. Her children and grandchildren always knew they were loved. Wherever Eldora made her home – on the farm, at the lake, in Fergus Falls, or in Arizona – a visit meant being warmly welcomed, given a seat at the table, and, without question, being fed.

Eldora was preceded in death by her parents, Olaf and Clara Eckley; her husband, Robert; her siblings, Clinton, Allan “Sunny,” Myrtle “Tootsie,” Milan “Mike,” Marlys, John “Johnny,” Robert “Bob,” and Patricia “Pat”; her son-in-law, Gerald “Gerry” Beck; daughter-in-law, Mary Schreiber; and her daughter, Cynthia “Cindy” Schreiber-Beck.

Eldora is survived by her brother, Gary; her children, Lawrence “Skip” (Kathy) Schreiber of Doran, Minnesota, Carolyn Schreiber of Seal Beach, California, and Charles “Chuck” (Karen) Schreiber of Foxhome, Minnesota; her grandchildren, Quinn (Amy) Schreiber, Jeremy (Roberta) Schreiber, Adam Rezac, Erin (Matt) Eichenlaub, and Whitney (Erik) Barner; and her great-grandchildren, Jessie, Cameron, Rehanna, Seth, Paige, Theodore, Benjamin, and Echo.
