The funeral will be at 1:00PM on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at United Methodist Church in Breckenridge. Pastor Mark Gronseth will be officiating. Ella was born at Abercrombie, ND on September 5, 1916 to David and Elise (Mikkelson) Naill. She was baptized and confirmed at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Abercrombie. Upon completion of her elementary education, she attended Wahpeton High School and graduated in 1935. She continued her education at North Dakota State College of Science, Wahpeton, Valley City State University, Valley City, ND, and Moorhead State University, Moorhead, MN prior to earning her teaching degree. Ella was united in marriage to Erwin W. Neuman on November 23, 1949. They made their home in Breckenridge all of their married life.
Ella's teaching career covered a span of 42 years until her retirement in 1979. Her first teaching experiences were at local one-room country schools. She then accepted a teaching position at Foxhome, MN where she was employed for many years. Later, she taught at St. Mary's Catholic School in Breckenridge. She also worked in the Breckenridge School District Office for several summers.
Ella was a member of the Retired Teachers Association of MN, and was a longtime member of the Breckenridge Senior Citizens Center, United Methodist Church, and the United Methodist Women.
Ella took great pride in the tea roses and gladiolas that she raised in her younger years. She was a familiar figure at St. Francis Home in Breckenridge where she devoted several hours of each day to being with her husband, Erwin, who was a resident there for over fourteen years. She treasured the many friendships she made among the residents and staff. She enjoyed going to the casino, watching TV, all of the activities at the church, and the time spent at the Sr. Citizens Center.
A special thanks to Larry and Peggy Ascheman for all their help during the last few years to ensure that Ella could remain in her own home.
Ella is survived by her sisters, Elizabeth Jacobs (Robert) Weiland of New Oxford, PA, Carol (William) Garland of Littlestown, PA, and Norma (Richard) Myers of Hanover, PA; a niece, Peggy (Tim) Konkler of Plymouth, MN; a nephew, Kenneth (Leslie) Aldrich of Fargo, ND; six nieces and seven nephews in Pennsylvania.
