Elroy John Johnson, 75 of Breckenridge, MN died on June 8, 2011 in Fargo, ND. The Visitation is Sunday, June 12, 2011 from 4-7 at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home in Breckenridge, MN. The funeral is on Monday June13, 2011 at 2:00 pm at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home with Pastor Peter Erickson officiating.
Elroy was born to Raymond and Leona (Ahrens) Johnson on March 13, 1936 in Wahpeton, ND. He attended school in Colfax, ND. He worked on his uncle's farm in the Barney area. On November 17, 1956 Elroy was united in marriage to Dora Baker in Fargo, ND. As they started their life together in Comstock, MN, Elroy drove gravel truck. They moved to Wahpeton and Fairmount then finally in 1961, settled in Breckenridge, MN. Elroy continued driving semi as an owner/operator hauling seed, feed and fertilizer. He retired from trucking in 2006 and remained in Breckenridge. Elroy loved to visit with friends. He enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family. He was also a member of the Eagles Club in Wahpeton.
Elroy is survived by his children Denise (Brian) Stevenson of Breckenridge, MN; Robin (Jim) Olson of Bemidji, MN; Neal (Janelle) Johnson of Wahpeton, ND; Dorean Hanson of Wahpeton, ND; Harry Johnson of Breckenridge, MN; Harvey Johnson of Breckenridge, MN; Bruce Johnson of Wahpeton, ND; Brian Johnson of Breckenridge, MN; Cheryl Pfeffer (Raul Tovar) of Moorhead, MN; Billie Jo Johnson (Gary Rugenstein) of Fairmount, ND; Jamie (Mike) Anderson of Breckenridge, MN; 37 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; his former wife Dora Johnson of Wahpeton, ND; his siblings Van (Gloria) Johnson of Moorhead, MN; Gene Johnson of Wyndmere, ND; Erland Wateland (Lorene) of Fargo, ND; Tammy (Lynn) Goltz of Leonard, ND; Sharon (Chris) Erbstoesser of West Fargo, ND and a friend Shawn Miller.
Elroy is preceded by his parents Raymond and Leona Johnson; granddaughter Gina Stach, his brothers Richard Johnson, Vernon Matthews, and Paul Johnson; sons-in-law Tom Stach and Glenn Hanson and a friend Clarence "Klinker" Bodson
