George Nordahl

George E. Nordahl, 76, died peacefully at his home in Breckenridge, MN on Tuesday, August 7, 2012. The visitation is at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home in Breckenridge, Thursday, August 9 from 5:00 to 8:00pm with a prayer service at 6:30pm. The funeral is at Breckenridge Lutheran Church, Friday, August 10 at 2:00pm with Pastor Mark Manning officiating. The interment is at Riverside Cemetery, Breckenridge.
George Nordahl was born May 26, 1936 in Page, ND; the eldest of three children to Emma (Lebo) and George W. Nordahl. He attended school in Northwood, ND and St. Paul, MN before moving to Breckenridge in the fourth grade; graduating high school in 1954. During high school, he apprenticed to his father becoming a Minnesota licensed Watchmaker and he maintained that license the rest of his life. After high school, George attended Concordia College for two years and then joined the US Army where he served in the 5th Army Band stationed at Fort Sheridan, IL. Upon his discharge, he went back to Concordia to finish a BA degree in Business Administration, Chemistry and Education. During those four years at college, he was a member of Concordia concert band. After graduation, he worked for Daveau Music and American Hardware both in Fargo. George achieved his master's degree in Guidance and Counseling from North Dakota State University then worked as a Guidance Director in Muscatine, Iowa and at Minneapolis Vocational High School. He moved back to Breckenridge in 1969 where he owned and operated Nordahl's Jewelry Store until 1978. He then pursued careers with Honeywell in Minneapolis, MN and with Lawrence Livermore National Lab in Livermore, CA, respectively. During that time he became active in the National Property and Management Association. He retired to Breckenridge in 1994.
In his spare time, George enjoyed golfing and traveling; and had an endearing fondness for playing music and singing. He was a member of the Breckenridge Rotary Club, the Alphean Male Chorus and the Wahpeton Elks Club. He was a longtime member of Breckenridge Lutheran Church where he was confirmed by Reverend P.A. Gisvold. Currently he was a member of the Central Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, MN.
George is survived by his sister Shirley Nordahl of Breckenridge, MN and his brother Dennis (Rita) Nordahl of Marinette, WI and their daughter Alesia. He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Emma Nordahl.
